Lady's Slipper Orchid

Britain's rarest Flower

The orchid is protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and anyone who interferes with the plant could be fined £5,000 and jailed for six months.

The lady’s-slipper orchid is the rarest of all British wildflowers. Once thought to be extinct in the UK, this special plant has since been rediscovered (One plant at Silverdale Golf Course). A national species recovery program was launched. Gait Barrows is now home to a thriving population of reintroduced plants.
