1940's dress using Butterick B5281 pattern

The dress below was made by a customer of mine using  Butterick pattern B5281, a green buckle which was purchased from purplestevie at ebid (http://uk.ebid.net/items/purplestevie) and 2 buttons made by her husband.

"The buttons were actually made by my husband (with a bit of help from me of course!).  You can buy something similar – I think they’ve got a French name – and I’d seen some but didn’t want to pay the price.   So we used Russia braid – but the real secret was the rubber washer (which came off the eyelets for the tent) – I just knew they’d come in handy one day!!"
