Hand made Ornaments & Clasps 1920's & 1930's

Use up scraps of silk
Very pretty ornaments for dresses, hats, clasps, belts etc., can be made out of odd pieces of silk or cloth scraps of wool and embroidery silk button moulds and beads.
Making the large Discs
Cut a large circle of stiff  cardboard then cut a slightly larger circle of silk to cover the disc. Draw the thread firmly to keep it in place  using long stitches from side to side at the back.
Then paint a button mould (use various sizes the domed ones work best) in metallic enamel in colours such as Gold Silver or Copper. Then with thin wool, angora or silk thread attach the moulds to the covered disc by passing the needle through the centre hole from the back and then working symmetrical stitches to the edges in the form of a star or sun rays. When the moulds are firmly attached the spaces in between can be filled up with fancy stitches, beads, jewels, or anything else such as gold thread, rock coral, shell, jet etc.

Clitheroe Food festival Whinberry Pie

I purchased a home made Whinberry pie from Clitheroe food festival which was held last weekend, it was delicious i havent had a proper whinberry pie for years, i  remember many summers ago picking wild whinberry just delicious.
The pie was made by The owners of Park Farm Shop, Tearooms, Garden & gift Centre.

"The Famous Whinberry Pie

...and a trip down Memory Lane to the days when tea was sold 'loose' from a van; warm, freshly baked, loaves of bread were delivered (unsliced of course) by bike - Workers' Playtime and Sing Something Simple were on the Light Programme...and mother used to bake her famous Whinberry Pie... and there never seemed to be any left!
At Park Farm, the memory lingers on in the form of our own genuine Whinberry Pie served with lashings of cream. Remember those tiny whinberries and the hours that it seemed to take to fill only a cup? Well, we do all that and then, with our own traditional recipe, create a Whinberry Pie - 'just like mother used to make.'

So, those purple fingers are ours...and that purple tongue is yours! Whinberry Pie re-lives memories for some and is a uniquely mouth watering experience for others. Try it now at Park Farm - we know you'll come back for more!"

Frearson & Ranova

A month ago or so i sold a signed vintage postcard of a musical Hall act called Frearson & Ranova, interestingly The buyer also had the name Frearson so being the noisy person that i am i asked if the person on the postcard was known to him.
It turned out that the buyer was in fact researching the surname Frearson (one name study) and didnt actually know any details about the Frearson from the postcard.
The surname Frearson is of early medieval English origin and probably derives from the word friar and would probably have been a nickname for someone who was pious and not necessarily a friar or monk.

Early Frearson's include  Henry Frierson - marriage, 2 July 1571, London; and Agnes Frearson - marriage, 4 August 1577, Hawkshead, Lancashire.

Frearson of Note
John Frearson of Birmingham. An engineer and inventor  of the cross-head screw.

On the 1841 UK census there are only 4 people recorded with the surname and by 1911, 688
My buyer has been researching the surname Frearson and its variants for that past 10 years and has managed to assemble 100 family trees from here in the UK, and other parts of the world including USA & Australia.

Below a selection of Music hall items
