Parrot & Thimble

No its not the name of a Pub lol.

I recently sold a job lot of old plastic and metal thimbles to a lovely Ebid  buyer and one of the plastic thimbles is now a drinking vessel for their parrot. What a novel idea I would never have thought of that.

When was this photo taken and how old is the couple? Are they in their 30's, 40's or older?

2012 the year for Autumn colour

Its at least 3 years since my acer above has been so rich in Autumn colour i know last year the leaves didnt seem to change colour at all!

Apparently  the rain this year has helped trees to keep their leaves hence the lovely bright red colour of my Acer.

Make your own felt demonstration

Today i attended a felt making demonstration at my local library by a local lady called  Shenna Swan.  Shenna runs craft workshops using vintage & recycled material to create handmade supplies, artwork and gifts.

Hexham Stone Carvings

HexHam Abbey is not far from Hadrians Wall in Northumberland which was founded by St. Wilfred in C.674AD.
Situated in the Prior Leschman Chantry Chapel are several figures carved into the stone.
The 1st guy looks like he is wearing a woollen pixie hat!

Hadrians Wall which is approx 73 miles long is also worth visiting especially Vindolanda, a wooden fort was first erected there about 85AD later forts were built of stone.  The museum houses fabulous finds from the site including leather goods,glass, pottery, jewellery, shoes of all kinds, and the famous wooden writing tablets.

Hebden Bridge Vintage Car Display 2012

Just thought i would show you a selection of Vintage Cars from the annual Hebden Bridge Car Show. A fabulous 2 day event with cars & bikes from various eras up to the early 1990's.  Saturday cars from 1970 - 1991, Sunday 1906 - 1960's.

Farmers have been using cloth bags for grain, seed and feed ever since cloth was available. In the early days, homespun linen was hand sewn into bags for the grain that was kept for use in the home, and for next year's planting. The sacks were considered valuable personal property, and were usually stitched or stencilled with names or initials to identify the owner.

Sometime in the 1920's, an enterprising manufacturer of cloth bags hit upon an interesting idea - maybe he could sell more sacks if they were decorated to be more desirable for the farmer's wife. And the era of the printed feedsack began. No longer just beige muslin, with advertising for the feed company, now sacks began to appear in a wide variety of popular colors and prints.

Today on  the last day of June the Crafty Vintage crew were at Brockholes Nature Reserve Samlesbury near Preston Lancashire.
Despite the weather there was a good mix of stalls although probably more craft than vintage and not a vintage car in sight I can only assume the weather put the Vintage car owners off.
Amongst the  mix of the usual stalls found at these events i spotted a selection of exquisite hand made designer biscuits decorated in a vintage style.

The table display was fabulous and caught my eye immediately i entered the room, Im sure my photos probably don't do the display justice.

These fabulous biscuits would be ideal as part of a Wedding table spread, Prom Night, Children's Birthday Party, Anniversary, Office Party etc,
