Hello Everyone! Here are a few new buttons to tempt you...

This pretty metal flower button has an 'antique silver' finish and shank fixing. They are available at 20p each from Love Buttons HQ.

These amazing vintage wooden buttons would add a very 'shabby chic' look to a handmade project. To give some idea of size, the smallest four buttons measure 23mm, and the huge one in the centre is 50mm in diameter. The set of seven buttons costs £6.00 from Love Buttons on Etsy.

I have managed to track down a new source of these charming and popular pansy flower buttons. They cost £1.99 for the pair from Love Buttons HQ. Also available in white and yellow.

Grandma's fashion from various eras

Grandma

Recently i was looking through  some old family photos and i came across a lot of my Grandma (Dad's mum) Eleanor  who was born in Linlithgow, Scotland in 1905.

The photo below was probably taken in about 1915, Grandma is the girl on the front row nearest the window  incidently all the people in this photo are her siblings.

The next photo is of grandma (in the middle) and 2 of her sisters probably taken in the late 1920's?

This one of Grandma was taken in the late 1940's i think? with my Dad's 2 cousins.

Tea cosies or cozies are covers for teapots, and can be made from fabric, such as felt or cotton but more often they are knitted or crocheted, a great idea to keep your tea warmer for longer.
Knitted tea cosies tend to have matching egg cosies while the fabric cosies can come in sets including tablecloths, oven gloves, aprons and tea towels.
The most popular knitted tea cosy in Britian is the type which resembles a knitted hat and some also sport the bobble on top. To quote Billy Connolly, if a man is left alone in a room with a tea cosy, and he does not attempt to wear it on his head, he should not be trusted.

Tea was introduced into Britian in the 1660's, but the first use of the cosy was in 1867. The Duchess of Bedford who established the fashion of afternoon tea in the 1840's probably made the tea cosy popular in the late 1880's. Afternoon tea was taken betwwen 3-5pm and a typical tea consisted of various delicate sandwiches such as cucumber,egg and cress, ham and salmon paste, clotted cream scones, victoria sponge, Battenburg and of course a teapot of tea. Afternoon tea was a time for news, gossip networking etc and of course the tea would get cold and that is when the tea cosy probably caught on.,

Today handmade items are making a comeback and the tea cosy is a firm favourite not only is it practical but it can look very decorative. At this time of the year charity organizations who hold Xmas bazaars, fetes etc, bring & buy sales make these items along with many other hand made craft items to raise money for worthy causes.

Vintage Buttons - Celluloid, Artid and Golden Age

Hello Folks! Today I have some vintage buttons to show you. Above are a mixed collection of vintage celluloid buttons, including 'glow bubbles' (bubble tops), and sew throughs. This mixed card costs £5.00 from Love Buttons on Etsy.

This charming and collectable 1940s Artid plastic button depicts a couple in Indian dress; the man holding a bird and the woman, a stringed instrument. This buttons costs £6.00 from Love Buttons HQ.

Finally, a set of six 'Golden Age' buttons with a floral pattern, perhaps made to imitate fabric, with its fine striations. The buttons have a two-piece construction, and are backmarked "EXTRA TREBLE STANDD". Golden Age buttons date to c. 1830-1850. This set of six buttons costs £16.00 from Love Buttons HQ.

Morning all! Here are a few of the latest finds from Love Buttons.

This first lot of four vintage glass moonglow buttons is listed on Love Buttons on Etsy for £4.00 for the set.

Tooth-Shaped Beads For Halloween!

Just back from my wet and windy holiday... Here are the latest buttons from Love Buttons, and some very scary white tooth-shaped beads, just right for Halloween plushies, jewellery and masks!

First up are these smart casein vintage buttons dating to the 1960s. This set of 10 buttons costs £3.50. I also have five in pink and white available loose, at 30p each.

Here are the beads. I think they are made from white glass, but may possibly be ceramic. There are 49 in the pack, costing £4.90 from Love Buttons on Misi.

Finally, these beautiful, Italian-made metal buttons. They have a gold tone finish on the metal, with rope, petal or pierced border. They have a central pad, covered with black velvet fabric, and would make a lovely centerpiece for all sorts of handmade sewing or craft projects. This mixed card of seven weighty buttons costs £4.00 from Love Buttons on Etsy.
